Virus Scanning and Blocking
WIN's email servers employ software to prevent most viruses from ever reaching your mailbox. As your email is received by our server, each message is scanned for the presence of viruses. If no virus is found, your message is placed normally into your mailbox on our server.
Spam Filtering
WIN's email servers support a procmail-base filter that will only accept email directed to your address ending with @win-4-u.net or @westianet.net. Many spam messages come with forged header information that has fake To: and From: field information. Customers can activate the SPAM filter FREE by sending an email to help@westianet.net and requesting that the Optional Spam Filter be added.
Unlimited Access
Western Iowa Networks offers unlimited usage with no time limit to all of its Internet customers. As this means you can connect and use the Internet as frequently and long as you would like, there are a few guidelines:
- Your use of the Internet must be within the provisions of the Acceptable User Agreement and not violate the Terms and Conditions of Internet use.
- There is a 20 minutes idle time-out set into our systems. This means if you walk away from your computer, and it is not actively doing somthing on the Internet (such as uploading/downloading etc), your connection will be terminated by our system.
- You can only connect to an account with one computer at a time. So even if you have two computers in your house, they can't both dial into the same account at the same time.
- WIN Internet is a limited resource. While we try to keep it "busy signal free" there may be times when all resources are in use. Usually, a modem will open up within a few minutes.
Free Software
WIN has Internet setup CDs that are used for every new activation. This CD comes with several FREE software programs, including several Internet browsers, security software, Email and Internet usage programs etc.
For those of you who do not have access to our WINSpeed product, we have the next best thing. WINAccel is an accelerator that will give your dial-up a boost.
With WINAccel, certain web page text and graphics will load faster when compared to a standard dial-up service. Results may vary. WINAccel is compatible with WIN dial-up Internet service on Windows 95/98/2000/xp, Windows CE, Pocket PC and Macintosh platforms.
We use data compression technology. Our server goes out to the Internet to find what you are looking for, compresses the data and then sends it to you, making the connection run faster. All you need to do is download a client-based software so that our server can speak with your modem.
Residential WINAccel is only an additional $2.95 a month. You still get 24/7 free tech support, a local dialing number and you can keep your 5 email addresses per account.
Email Only Account
Western Iowa Networks offers a WESTIANET Email Only Account. This type of account can be used by anyone who doesn't have a WIN dial-up account but does have access to the Internet and would like to use the @westianet.net email address. This account can be used with a regular email client such as Outlook or with the WIN Web Mail service. Each Email Only Account is just $5.00 per month and service can be used from any computer with a connection to the Internet.
